Young Kiwi Chef appointed as Junior Ambassador to the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) Board.

PRESS RELEASE ON BEHALF OF THE NEW ZEALAND CHEFS ASSOCIATION (NZCA). For immediate release – 29th March 2010.

A young New Zealand chef, Sarah Primrose from The Pear Tree restaurant, Kerikeri has been appointed as one of two Junior Ambassadors to the WACS Board of Directors for the coming 2 years.

Sarah’s role will be to give input to the Presidium and board of elected continental directors on matters pertaining to young chefs from around the world.

Sarah recently attended the 34th WACS bi-annual Congress in Santiago, Chile where she participated in the Dr Billy Gallagher WACS Junior Chefs Forum, where over 60 young chefs from throughout the world participated in seminars, round table discussions and competitions. At the Congress Sarah was selected as a team leader and following on from this Sarah applied for one of the two Junior Ambassador positions that became available for the coming two year term.

Sarah said of her appointment “I’m excited to be given this opportunity, to be able to represent the young culinary professionals of the world to give input to the board on the issues that matter to us and just as importantly be able to put forward ideas for the development of young chefs”. Sarah also went on to say “not only is this a great opportunity to represent my peers from around the world, but also to represent the New Zealand Chefs Association, their support of me at both regional and national level has been tremendous, and it is through participation and involvement with professional organisations such as the NZCA that I have been able to access these opportunities”.

NZCA Vice President, Gary Miller said of Sarah’s appointment “We are absolutely delighted for Sarah, there is an immense amount of respect throughout the world for New Zealand’s food and foodservice sector and its people who commit boundless energy and time ensuring that we are at the forefront of the world hospitality scene”.

Sarah is no stranger to the pressures of the international culinary arena, last year she was part of the New Zealand team that won the inaugural Oceania Pacific Challenge Trophy, held in Vanuatu and is currently preparing to compete as a member of the NZCA’s National Junior Representative Team in a Trans-Tasman Challenge against a team of Australian Junior Chefs at the Gourmet Pacific Challenge which will be held as part of the Fine Foods NZ Show at Auckland’s ASB Show Ground from June 13th – 15th. Young American Chef, Kelly Conwell from the American Culinary Federation is the other Junior Ambassador to be appointed for the coming two year term. ENDS.
